Re: Annual Meeting 12th July 2016
We are looking forward to seeing as many people at our annual meeting as possible on 12th July at 7pm. The Friends of the Graham Adams Centre will be providing cheese and wine as an added incentive to attend!
I hope that it will be a positive time when we can hear about all the great things that happen at the centre. We would be really pleased if your organisation would come prepared to briefly share something about what you do, so that we can all learn more about the life of the centre. We would also love to hear any ideas you have for the future development of the centre.
The strength of the Graham Adams Centre is simple – people. The centre would not exist without people – and people giving up their time for others. We have our own team of volunteers, and then there are all the volunteers working on behalf of the many groups that meet at the centre. We are proud to be able to call our centre the home of so many local organisations.
As you are aware, we as a charity continue to face testing times and really need local support. The issue of the roof repairs raised at the last AGM is ongoing and causes considerable stress and uncertainty for our directors, and filling the void left by the sad and unexpected exit of the Children’s Centre is a very slow and steady process. Nevertheless we have had lots of positive developments over the last year and remain hopeful for an exciting future.
The Graham Adams Centre is run by the charity ‘Southam Church and Community Project’ which was set up simply to serve the community through the Graham Adams Centre. The Directors of the charity are all volunteers. At our last AGM Glesni Thomas our Chair, and Debbie Wilson our Treasurer, stood down. No-one stood in their place. I offered to stand as chair on a temporary basis and Debbie kindly offered to see us through the next financial year. That has now come to an end.
In order for the centre to continue operating we need more people to stand as Directors, and urgently need nominations for a Chair and Treasurer. The Trustees (directors) have agreed to outsource a lot of the work of the Treasurer so it is not such a heavily laden role. To be a Trustee / Director the commitment need only be as much as an hours meeting a month helping to direct the future of the centre. If you think you could help in the role of Chair, Treasurer or Director, or know someone who might be interested in serving their community in this way please get in touch and find out more.
If we do not have nominations for Chair and Treasurer at our AGM in July then we will not be able to continue functioning as a charity under Charity Law. We absolutely do not want this to happen. Please help us guarantee the future of the Graham Adams Centre as a place for the community of Southam and the surrounding villages.
We look forward to seeing you on 12th July 2016.
